Capt Rex: Good day, I am Captain Rex Villavicencio, Master of MB Vistaria Salud. Presently, we are converted here at Nanao Port in Japan, and we are 20 crew, crew members are all Filipino crew.
MarTrust: Captain, where are you sailing? What’s your usual course from Japan? Where are you going at the moment if I may ask?
Capt Rex: Actually, our voyage is only from Asia. After Japan, we will go to South Korea for bunkering, then we go to Australia for a loading call and then back to Japan.
MarTrust: I am very curious to know how a typical day is for a captain on the ship.
Capt Rex: In the port, it is a busy day, because while in port, there are visitors. Our superintendents come on board and sometimes maintenance technicians also, so it’s a little bit busy while in the port. But during the ocean passage, we can relax a little bit.
MarTrust: Interesting, very nice. So how long do you stay on the ship, usually one month or two months?
Capt Rex: Recently, I am almost finished my contract for 8 months onboard, so hopefully after going back again to Japan I can go home.
MarTrust: So finally, you’re going to meet family after such a long time.
MarTrust: Have you used the MarTrust E-Wallet yet?
Capt Rex: Yes, ma’am for my side I have used it but, during ocean pass, we cannot use it because we are experiencing poor signal, weak internet signal. So, we cannot use it while based at sea. However, when we are in port, we have internet we can access the MarTrust E-Wallet.
MarTrust: Have you done any transactions yet?
Capt Rex: I have tried one time only, I think. Plus, two crew, they have tried also.
MarTrust: How is it going to help everyone, crew worldwide, when you have such a technology like MarTrust? Will it make it easier for you guys on board to send money home? You don’t have to wait to go to a port and then find an exchange house. So, what do you see in the future? How easy it will become for everyone onboard to send money home with such a technology like MarTrust?
Capt Rex: MarTrust Technology, I really believe this is great. The crew cannot go roam to find cash for Visa remittance, but now onboard if there is an internet connection, they can send money any time, and it is very easy to use.
MarTrust: Which is your favourite function, if you have any, for the E-Wallet?
Capt Rex: This one ma’am, this one function because I purchase, I spent online, I use this one. For crew payments for colleagues, it is very easy to use.
MarTrust: Have you tried to do the colleague click transfer yet?
Capt Rex: Yes, we already tried ma’am.
MarTrust: Okay, can you give an example of who you did and how you did that?
Capt Rex: Yes, I tried to send my third engineer and he received it right away, in just maybe one or two minutes, he received the transaction money.
MarTrust: Have any crew members done it within themselves do you know?
Capt Rex: Yes, they are also doing that transfer to the other person. Yeah, it’s very easy to use.
MarTrust: So, if you have to recommend MarTrust to any other Captain, what would you tell him?
Capt Rex: Yeah, I can recommend it. Maybe from 1 to 10, I would say 8.
MarTrust: Good to hear that. Maybe in the future when you are fully using the MarTrust E-Wallet and the card, I assure you the crew will have much more benefits and we will make their life easier in terms of managing their money.
Capt Rex: I think tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, they will disembark. So, I told them you can try this card when they go home, and try it at the ATM machine, I’m also familiarised with the usage.
MarTrust: Great awesome. Thank you, Captain. I think I’ll just take this much of your time. You are a very busy man. You must take care of the whole ship. Thank you very much for doing this with me. And on behalf of the entire MarTrust team, we really appreciate and thank you again.
“For the company, cash flow control and timesaving, and for the seafarers; they are completely in control of their funds, and that is a huge benefit for them.”
Richard from Seatrade on how they have been able to reduce Cash to Master transactions, boost cash flow, and streamline the payroll process.
“Now the captain has his MarTrust card onboard, which he can utilise for vessel needs, this is saving $8,000-10,000 per year [and per vessel] on fees that we pay to the port agents.”
George explains how implementing the MarTrust e-wallet has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars for ABC Maritime, and that it provides the ability for seafarers to instantly receive and send funds at competitive FX rates.
